Obituary

Carmen Sotelo Garza

It is with profound sorrow and overwhelming love that we announce the passing of our beloved Mom, Grandma, and Great-Grandma Carmen Garza. She passed away peacefully on November 25, 2025, in the residence of her beloved daughter. She was blessed with 87 years of life and was called home to rest in God's eternal kingdom surrounded by the warm embraces and quiet prayers of her loving family.

While our hearts are heavy with grief today, our purpose is not just to mourn what we have lost, but to celebrate the extraordinary life Carmen lived and the joy and laughter she brought to us. Carmen lived filled with strength, gratitude, and the deep cultural pride that shaped her spirit. Our beloved mom Carmen Garza was born on June 18, 1938. She was a loving mother of six, Maria, Andrea, Lupe, Rosa, Martina, and Juan, and an adoring grandmother and great-grandmother known as Mama Grande.

As a mother, she was incredibly determined to provide for her family. She was a very hardworking woman from an incredibly early age. Carmen worked in the fields, factory, and housekeeping. She had an entrepreneurial side of her. As she would make comforters and tamales to sell on the side. As tough as she was, she loved the gentle craft of sewing. Making beautiful pieces through crocheting and quilting, leaving an impact as her daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren love the world of crafts too.

She had many passions, but one of her favorite things included a love for Roosters, which showed her through her collection at her home. She enjoyed her Dallas Cowboys not wanting to miss a game. We all know she will continue watching them from above. She also loved playing loteria, if you ever played with her you would often hear her yelling "Buenas!"  She loved music. She prayed the rosary with devotion, and thanked God for every blessing, big or small. Her faith was a quiet, but a powerful force. Faith was an important part of her life as she carried herself with dignity.

As a single mother, she taught us to stand proud of who we are, to honor our roots, and to remember that the love of a mother is a blessing that never fades. Her children and siblings will forever cherish her warmth, her humor, and the unconditional love she has poured into every moment we shared. She left us with great memories.

You left to heaven, your story has ended here on earth, but a new story begins in heaven in the arms of our lord. May God keep you in his glory and we will forever keep you in our hearts.

Mom, Grandma, we will miss you more than words can say. Thank you for everything. Rest in peace. We love you so much.
